ARTIST STATEMENT:
“The possibilities of clay as a medium for creative expression are infinite. Sculptural or vessel form, each piece is a statement by itself or is used as a canvas for surface treatment to impart ideas or emotions.
I love the challenge of the entire process – the conception, the forming, the decorating, the firing. Integral to this process is frustration and elation. Learning is constant. Each of my art pieces reflects my physical and emotional state at the time it was created. High energy “up” days result in large works being formed for the sheer joy of controlling the clay. Contemplative days are spent creating small porcelain and stoneware pieces, carving intricate designs, designing embellishments. I love the graceful form, the clean line. Each piece requests a special type of decorating, glazing, or firing to bring out its own unique beauty.
My functional kitchen pieces are one-of-a-kind, that can be used at a feast and are also a “feast for the eye.” I love knowing these pieces are used and enjoyed daily.
My ceramic pieces are in private collections in Europe, Japan, South American, and the United States.”
